Liberty,
quiet, subtle, watching from a corner, lonely.
Liberty,
smiling, laughing, lecturing, shouting, centre of the group, keeping everyone in line.
Liberty is the ‘mom’ of the group. She holds herself together, only to hold the rest of them together, and does as good a job as anyone can. With her friends, she can be confident, open, herself. Without them, nothing. Alone, Liberty is self conscious, self critical and self injuring. Any suggestion of this fact however, is never received smoothly. Well known for her sharp tongue, death glares, and insults that no one understands, Liberty can seem intimidating at first. Nonetheless, she is perfectly prepared to drop absolutely everything for a friend in need, and does her best to keep an eye on everyone, whether she is close to them or not.
With her friends though, even the ones whose problems she hears everyday, Liberty has trouble being honest. Even once proven trustworthy, still she tries to hide things from those who can help her the most. Her friends. Afraid that they won’t like her, that they’ll think she’s looking for attention. That they’ll hate her, the way she hates herself.
So there’s Liberty,
In public? All smiles, and laughs, and indulgent lectures to her friends. Her children.
Alone? Whole different story.

_History::
Liberty was the firstborn in her family. Being the oldest, her parents always had more time for her younger brother. But as much as Liberty would like to be able to blame life on her parents, she has to acknowledge that they did pretty well. How could they be expected to deal with a couple of kids like Liberty and Sam? When Sam was diagnosed with a learning disability, and anxiety disorders, Liberty found herself having to handle things on her own. With parents too busy to notice her destructive thoughts even in grade 4, she started to solve her own problems, refusing to seek out help from teachers over the bullying, convinced that they had better things to do than help her.
When she finally got to Yorkwood, Liberty was coming in from a tiny, all girls private school. An atmosphere even more isolated in some ways, than the rich, pretty much all white population of Yorkwood.
Which was why her ending up in Robotics with Pedro Kat and Marzly was just about the best thing that could have happened to her. As awkward as they all seemed to her at first, and despite her attempts to avoid them, they soon became friends. Best friends. She transferred into an advanced class, and found herself working alongside Jake, on everything. They became friends, and then better friends. For a time, best friends even. And then in May, there came the camping trip. Liberty and Marzly got closer to James. The gang was formed. And somewhere in all this, Liberty realized she liked Jake. An annoying habit, pretty much protecting him from any of the anger he may deserve. He found himself a new girlfriend, and before anything could be sorted out, it was summer.
By the time grade 10 rolled around, Liberty could hardly wait for the summer to end – and I mean that in the absolute most literal sense.
Liberty’s home, oddly enough is at her school.
Or wherever her friends are.
